Another classic application for thermal imaging is identifying problems with cavity wall insulation.

While infrared can be a useful tool on most building surveys, it's when identifying hidden problems such as damp or missing cavity wall insulation, that it comes in to its own.

Symptoms for the householder can be cold spots with condensation forming internally, and a feeling that the wall insulation is not performing.

Your experienced thermographer can record external images using a high resolution thermal imaging camera to reveal hot spots in a particular pattern. Your surveyor should then check inside to see if the same pattern can be observed.

Finally the patterns can be corroborated by borescope survey to confirm the findings. All cavity wall insulation installations come with a 25 year guarantee from www.CIGA.co.uk.
